It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sylvia V. Flores born on March 1, 1936, in Sullivan City, Texas. Sylvia passed away on April 17, 2024, at the age of 88 leaving to mourn family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Jose T. Villegas and Olivia Diaz Villegas.
She is survived by her loving husband Norberto Flores, daughter Dena Yvette (Roberto) Salinas, granddaughter Dyvette Nori (Romulo) Garza, her loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sylvia attended Lyford High School and Pan American University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree.
During her teaching career of thirty - nine years, Sylvia excelled as an elementary teacher at Lyford CISD. She taught at Sebastian Elementary and Lyford elementary helping all her students become successful in all subject areas. Sylvia used a teaching technique called English Roll to help all students excel in reading. After a period of time, Sylvia was assigned to teach as a reading teacher at the Reading Clinic in Lyford. Her teaching career was her complete passion, and she often stated the love she had for her students. At the same time, Sylvia taught English to the non-English speakers in the evening hours for many years. During her service at Lyford CISD, the Lyford Middle School recognized her by honoring her as Hispanic Woman of the year October 12, 1998. When Sylvia retired, she was hired by the Region I Service Center to work at the Martin Cavasos Center to teach adults to excel in both English and Math. She worked at the Martin Cavasos Center for six years ensuring the success of her students.
Sylvia served her church by serving as an Officer at the Prince of Peace Alter Society for several years. Sylvia led a committee to decorate the church for special occasions. Sylvia was an individual who had an immense amount of faith for her Lord and Savior.
Throughout her life, Sylvia took care of both of her parents displaying her love and empathy, becoming a role model for everyone.
During these last several years, Sylvia was fighting a battle with her health. Throughout this time, she never gave up fighting by praying and having faith for her Lord and Savior, and her beloved St. Jude. At this time, Sylvia would always exhibit faith over fear, never letting her health take over.
The family would like to thank her caregiver, Zoraida Molina, for her loving care, time, and attention.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 12 p.m. until 9pm. with a holy rosary at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lyford. All services will conclude at that time.
